Hundreds of people gathered in the center of South Africa to mark the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade case.

SAN ANTONIO. Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The historic legislation that guaranteed the availability of abortion in the US was overturned by the Supreme Court last summer.

Abortion is now illegal in Texas, except when it is necessary to save the life of the mother. The law does not provide exceptions for rape or incest. Under the Trigger Act, those who facilitate an illegal procedure could face life imprisonment.

On January 22, abortion rights advocates held rallies and marches across the country, including in San Antonio.

Several hundred people gathered outside the federal courthouse, protesters called for the restoration and expansion of abortion services.
