HPD: Blood trail leads police to where man was shot dead in southwest Houston

Police said they were looking for a man who behaved suspiciously outside the apartment before fleeing.

HOUSTON — A blood trail led police to discover a body in an apartment complex in southwest Houston at night.

Officers were called to the West Bellfort apartments shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday and found a suspicious person leaving one of the apartments. After a short search for the man, the officers entered the unit and found another man shot dead.

“The door was not locked and they opened the door to check on welfare,” said HPD Police Lieutenant Izaguirre. “They saw a grown man in his 20s who died on the floor.”

Police said drugs and weapons were found in the apartment and that they are not sure if the man who was found dead rented it. The murder is now under investigation.
