‘How much trouble am I in?’: St. Cloud High School Principal is accused of breaking into a car in a Publix parking lot.

ST. CLOUD, Florida. — The headmaster of St. Cloud High School was arrested Tuesday on criminal disorderly conduct charges after breaking into a car at a Publix store, according to the sheriff’s office.

Principal Nathaniel Fancher, 48, has been charged in connection with an “incident” that took place outside the school last week, St. Cloud High School assistant principal Jennifer Vron said.

According to the affidavit, Fancher is accused of breaking into a car in a Publix parking lot located at 4401 13th Street in St. Cloud on January 26.

The police met with the victim, who told them that their car had been broken into while they were in the store.

According to the affidavit, police noted “a substantial scratch that extended almost the entire length of the passenger side of the vehicle” with an estimated damage of over $1,000.

Police said Publix management provided security footage showing Fancher approaching the victim’s car. Fancher is seen walking the entire length of the passenger side of the car, his left arm dragging behind the rest of his body.

He then looks back at the car, exits the camera and returns to see the passenger side of the car again, police said.

According to the affidavit, officers were able to follow the camera as Fancher returned to the store and positively identify the man based on the Publix employees he interacted with.

When the police tried to contact Fancher at his home, they said he notified them through the Ring doorbell camera that he was out of town and they should call him on his cell phone.

The police said that when they contacted Fancher on his cell phone and said they needed to talk to him about what had happened in Publix a few days before, Fancher stated “it was because of the car”.

According to the affidavit, police told Fancher that he was under arrest, but he told police he was in New York and would return on January 31.

Police said Fancher called them on January 31 and asked if he could contact the victim for damages and if he could avoid arrest and file charges with the state’s attorney’s office instead. In addition, Fancher asked if there was a way to avoid being photographed.

Fancher then agreed to speak to police at the St. Cloud Police Station at 2:00 pm on 31 January.

Police added that Fancher called a school resource officer in St. Cloud, admitted to breaking into the car, and asked, “What’s my problem?”

According to the affidavit, the victim was able to provide the police with a damage estimate, which amounted to $3,748.

Police said Fancher has been charged with criminal mischief over $1,000 and is being held on $1,000 bail.

Vrona said in a statement that until the investigation and related proceedings are completed, Fancher will be on administrative leave from school.

“Because this is a law enforcement matter, we cannot discuss the incident in detail,” Vrona said. “Please rest assured that we will continue to focus on educating our students and minimizing any disruption to the learning process.”
