How a stroke changed the life of a Grand Prairie teacher for the better

Grand Prairie, Texas. When Inace Barnes of Grande Prairie suffered a stroke last summer, life went from bad to great.

“It was God’s plan to get me back to where I need to be,” she said.

However, before getting there, she received the final blow in several difficult years.

A stroke left her unable to work, and her job as a teacher, which she had dreamed of for two decades, ended.

Prior to that, her father died unexpectedly.

To top it off, her 23-year marriage ended in divorce.

“I was angry, but now I understand,” she said. “I understand why.

Inass says the stroke was a revelation. For the first time, she realized how much she was loved.

The students showered her with love letters, letting her know how much they miss her.

This is partly why she says the stroke gave her a whole new understanding of life. But most importantly, it was given to her again by her husband.

Marshall says that when he went to the hospital to provide support, it became clear that her stroke had severely affected his heart.

“I just got this overwhelming feeling, ‘I’m where I’m supposed to be,’” Marshall said. “And I whispered to her right before the operation: “I will never leave you. I will never leave you.”

They remarried a few weeks ago and said they wouldn’t miss a second chance.

“You have to live every day to its fullest,” Inass said.

“Don’t waste a day, an hour, a minute,” Marshall said. “Live every day like it’s your last, because you never know when you’ll have the chance to tell that person you love them.”

Tuesday may be a holiday, but it’s really just one in 365 chances to show someone they care about you.
