HOUSTON – If you are thinking about a career change, 2023 could be the year to make that leap.

The Houston job market remains strong and poised for growth in some sectors, including healthcare. Reported by Workforce Solutions.

Every January, many Houston residents make the decision to find a new job or a better job. While Houston’s unemployment rate is higher than the rest of the state as of December at 4%, if you’re looking to work in healthcare, energy, education, or construction in Houston, 2023 could be the year for you.

“Employers keep coming to us with job openings, so the job market is very dynamic right now,” said Michelle Castro of Workforce Solutions.

Castro said all four sectors are starting the year with strong hiring markets, thanks in part to innovation, especially in healthcare and energy.

She expects this trend to continue in 2023, even as layoffs and layoffs occur in other industries.

Castrov said that to take advantage of what is there and find a career or job that suits you, you must be prepared before you make a move.

“It’s about looking at the skills you already have and how they can be applied to new opportunities,” added Castro.

She recommends updating your resume to highlight the skills and abilities that employers are looking for today. Assess what you are missing and consider acquiring new skills online.

“You can learn skills. You can get certificates. and they can help you transition to a new or better job by building on the skills you already have,” said Castro.
