Houston Rodeo BBQ Cookoff 2023: What you need to know about tickets, parking and ridesharing

For three days, teams battle it out for the best brisket, ribs, chicken and more!

HOUSTON. Over 250 BBQ teams from across Texas and around the world will take part in the World BarbeeQue Championship in NRG Park. It will take place today from 17:00 to 23:00.

Over the next three days, teams battle it out for the best brisket, ribs, chicken, Go Texan, and desserts in a dutch oven.

How much are tickets for the Houston Rodeo BBQ Cookoff?

While most team tents are by invitation only, there are several public areas that visitors can visit.

  • Garden: Texas Country Artists
  • Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon: Lots of live performers and DJs.
  • Chuckwagon: A plate of brisket, chips and beans is included in the admission price.

The carnival is also open with rides, games and food.

  • Adults 13 years and older: $20.
  • Children 3 to 12 years old: $10.
  • Children under 2 years free

To purchase drinks, patrons must use $3.00 each drink tickets purchased on site.

  • Soda/water: 1 ticket
  • Beer: 2 tickets
  • Craft beer: 3 tickets

What days are barbecues at the Houston Rodeo?

The World Bar-B-Que Championship runs from Thursday, February 23rd to Saturday, February 25th.

Thursday, February 23, from 17:00 to 23:00.

Friday, February 24, from 12:00 to 23:00.

Saturday, February 25, from 9:00 to 23:00.

Barbecue Parking at Houston Rodeo

Please note: According to the organizers, parking for the World BarbeeQue Championship is different from parking for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Parking Rodeo BBQ Cookoff at NRG Park

Public parking is available on site for $25 at the following locations:

  • Location: Main route to Yellow Lot – 610 to Main Street, enter Exit 16 from Main Street.
  • Opening hours: from 6:00 to 22:00
  • Price: $25
  • Location: Entrance from Bellfort West and Kirby Drive.
  • Opening hours: from 10:00 to 22:00
  • Price: $25

Disabled parking at NRG Park

A limited number of ADA parking spaces are available at the Teal and Yellow sites, including van parking for $25 per day, officials said.

These seats are sold on a first come, first served basis and subject to availability. Drivers must present a valid state disability badge or vehicle registration for access.

Once the ADA parking lot is full, ADA customers will be directed to the nearest ADA-accessible or general parking lot.

Teal Lot (also ADA drop-off and landing site)

  • Location: Entrance through gate 14 from Merworth.
  • Opening hours: from 6:00 to 22:00
  • Price: $25
  • Location: Main route to Yellow Lot – 610 to Main Street, enter Exit 16 from Main Street.
  • Opening hours: from 6:00 to 22:00
  • Price: $25

Rodeo BBQ Cookoff Park and Attraction Options

Members can also park at one of these locations and use the shuttle service to NRG Park.

Visitors are dropped off near the NRG Center and NRG Arena.

Disabled accessible parking areas include OST 1, West Loop, Monroe and Maxey.

Uber and Lyft pick up and drop off passengers at NRG Park.

Members can also choose not to park at all by making a trip to and from NRG Park for BBQ Cookoff.

  • Disembarkation and landing are carried out on the yellow platform.
  • Entrance Gate 16B from Main Street; from the northern lanes, Main Street is the only access to the site. Access to the left turn lane from the south lanes of Main Street is prohibited.

TxDOT partnered with Lyft to provide drivers with $20 in credits to help prevent drunk driving.
