Houston, are you ready for the 2nd rodeo? The opening day of the livestock show and rodeo is Tuesday.

HOUSTON “There was cooking, trail walking, and then a parade… but Rodeo Houston officially starts on Tuesday.

Student competitions start at 8 am, and the carnival, shops and food stalls open at 10 am.

On opening day, Howdy figurines will be handed out to guests.

TRANSPORT

Buses and subway rails are an affordable way to get to the livestock show and rodeo. You can also use ride-sharing services like Lyft or Uber to the yellow parking lot at Kirby and McNee Street and walk. So wear comfortable shoes.

If you decide to get behind the wheel, be sure to be patient for traffic jams. Parking costs start at $25 per car. Also this year there are many designed places for drivers with disabilities.

PRICES

Admission to NRG Park is $20 for over 13s. Admission is $10 for children under 12. It’s free for children under 2 years old. The season pass costs $50.

Danielle Grossman, director of strategic communications, said large families can save money by scheduling discounts on food and admission tickets.

“This year we have family environments again. Every Wednesday until noon, any child under the age of 13 and over the age of 60 will enter for free,” Grossman said.

Grossman said on March 8 that access to NRG Park would be free for everyone until noon.

“For the first time we have a Community Day,” she said. “We’re so excited about Community Day because we think it’s important that every member of the community has access to the rodeo.”

Tickets for the carnival rides are $5 for 10 tickets, but your park admission includes access to the petting zoo, maternity hospitals, and livestock section.

“We have a ton of opportunities for kids to get their hands dirty and really get to know farming and animal husbandry and learn what rodeo is all about,” Grossman added.

Grossman said there are 11 concert shows that can be purchased for $25.
