Hit-and-run crash in Lake County kills couple, woman arrested for striking them.

A hit-and-run accident that claimed a woman’s life and left a man in a serious condition has resulted in the arrest of a Lady Lake woman, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The fatal incident occurred last year on September 11th, 2022, near Rolling Acres Road and West Lakeview Street. The driver of the suspect vehicle ran off the road for an unknown reason and struck two pedestrians before fleeing the scene. The man was airlifted to the hospital in serious condition, while the woman died at the scene.

Following the discovery of car parts near to the crash site, troopers were able to determine the model of the car involved in the accident, a Jeep Cherokee. On Thursday, troopers reported they had located the driver who was responsible for the fatal hit-and-run: Tara Rene Schiessle, 31, of Lady Lake.

Schiessle has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injuries, and false and fraudulent insurance claims. Troopers have set Schiessle’s bond at $42,000.

The victim’s family may now receive some semblance of justice knowing that charges have been brought against the driver who caused the accident. With the pursuit of justice, perhaps the community can begin the arduous journey of healing.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident fully. With eyewitness accounts and information recovered from the vehicle parts found at the scene, authorities will create a detailed report of the incident to determine the events that led to the tragedy.

As the case continues, we hope that the victims find peace and closure while the perpetrator is brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.
