Highway 92 westbound in San Mateo County closed due to possible failure

On Wednesday, officials said westbound Highway 92 in San Mateo County was closed between Crystal Springs Reservoir and Pilarcitos Creek Road due to the possibility of a sinkhole opening.

The California Highway Patrol said there is a sinkhole in the western lane of the highway west of upper Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard) that could turn into a funnel if the lane is left open and vehicles continue to travel on it.

The westbound lane has been closed “until further notice as a precaution,” CHP said.

East Highway 92 is open.

Drivers were urged to take alternative routes.

Additional information was not immediately available.
