Highway 17 closed in both directions due to the collapse of a large drilling rig, downed trees and snow

Both directions of Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains were closed early Friday due to downed trees, a large rig and snow on top, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., the CHP plant issued an alarm for both directions of the highway due to hazardous conditions.

Northbound lanes were blocked on Granite Creek Road after several trees fell on the roadway, and southbound lanes were blocked on Bear Creek Road after a truck and trailer overturned, the report said. CHP.

There was no indication of when the highway would reopen.
