High school student Li accused of taping classmate in bathroom, court documents say

BAYTOWN, Texas – Middle school student Lee is currently unable to return to school after court documents show she had a classmate in the toilet.

NeVea Thompson, 17, is accused of invasive videotaping in a bathroom or dressing room. On Monday, January 6, she appeared in court, where she posted a $2,500 bail and was released.

The accusatory documents state that the victim was in a toilet stall when she “looks up, sees a recording of a mobile phone, bends down, trying to cover herself, raises her hand and says “stop.”

According to court records, the alleged victim identified Thompson as the perpetrator. It further states that “Plaintiff stated that on January 24, 2023, during the third period, () Defendant electronically shared a video of () Plaintiff using the bathroom.”

In a statement to KPRC 2, a CISD Goose Creek spokesman said Thompson is not currently at school.

“The student who was charged did not return to campus and will not return pending the outcome of the charges against him,” the statement said.

KPRC 2 legal analyst Brian Weiss said the county has the right to keep Thompson out of Lee Hi until the case is resolved.

“While this defendant, like any other defendant, is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court; the school has every right to ensure that the student does not return to Lee’s high school class,” Weiss said. “I think this is a teaching moment for parents, you have to instill in your children the fundamental difference between what is right and what is wrong, and I don’t think anyone with any stretch of the imagination could ever begin to say that intended behavior like this is happening. with area code, right hemisphere time zone.

Goose Creek CISD released the following statement regarding the incident:

“We are aware of an incident that took place on February 2 in the restroom of Li Middle School between two students, in which one student was charged with recording illegally. The parents of both students were contacted. The student who was charged did not return to campus and they will not return pending the outcome of the charges against him. This is a criminal matter currently under investigation and the county will refrain from further comment at this time.”
