Here are the schools in San Antonio that blocked and didn’t block TikTok

The decisions come in the wake of Governor Abbott’s directive directing all agencies in the state of Texas to ban TikTok from any government device.

SAN ANTONIO — Officials at several schools in and around San Antonio and Texas have decided to block access to the TikTok app on phones connected to campus networks.

The development follows Governor Abbott’s directive, which directs all agencies in the state of Texas to ban TikTok from any government device due to privacy concerns and cybersecurity risks.

Here are the schools in San Antonio with TikTok restrictions:

University of Texas at San Antonio

“In accordance with Governor Abbott’s directive, TikTok has been removed from state/university-issued phones and devices to all state agencies,” UTSA said. “During the winter break, technical controls have been put in place that restrict the use of UTSA networks by individuals with personal devices to connect and use the platform.”

Alamo College Districts

On Wednesday, university system administrators announced that they are blocking both wireless and wired access to TikTok on all of their campuses. Anyone connected to the Alamo Colleges District network will not be able to access TikTok.

“With immediate effect, all university faculty and staff are prohibited from downloading or using TikTok on any university-owned or issued devices and other university information resources,” Texas state officials said.

Here are the schools that do not have the current TikTok restrictions:

University of the Incarnate Word

“There are currently no plans to ban or restrict the use of TikTok in UIW,” officials told KENS 5.

“At this time, OLLU has not made any decision to ban TikTok. As with anything that poses a potential threat to the university, we will continue to assess the situation,” campus leaders said.
