Head-on collision on Vasco Road near Byron leaves 1 dead

One person died early Monday morning when his vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic on Vasco Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County and crashed into a tractor trailer.

The truck driver was not injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP dispatch received a report of a two-vehicle collision at 4:19 am on Vasco, south of Camino Diablo.

A one-passenger Ford Fusion was heading south when it crossed the center line and crashed into a tractor trailer. The driver of the Ford died at the scene.
