Hal English Takes on Role as Robbinsville Township Council Member

Robbinsville Township Council has announced the appointment of Harold “Hal” English to the governing body, filling the unexpired term of Mike Cipriano. The decision was made during a Special Public Meeting held on January 4, 2023, in Robbinsville, NJ.

Hal English, a resident of Town Center, brings a wealth of experience to the position. He previously served as the Township’s Director of Economic and Community Development from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, English has been actively involved in the Robbinsville community, having served as a member of the Robbinsville Township Planning Board and the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC). He also held the position of President and CEO of the Princeton Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The Township Council expressed their gratitude towards all the residents who expressed interest in the open position. President Debbie Blakely stated that the decision to appoint Hal English was made after careful consideration of all the applicants. English’s extensive experience in finance, planning, zoning, and redevelopment, along with his deep knowledge of Robbinsville, made him a standout candidate. The Council is confident that English will bring fresh and innovative ideas to the table and work effectively with the rest of the team.

In addition to his career in local banking, Hal English has held various notable positions. He served as the Business Administrator, Director of Technology and Economic Development, and Acting Mayor of Hamilton. During his tenure in Hamilton, he played a pivotal role in the development of the highly successful Hamilton Marketplace, which boasts 1 million square feet of retail space on Route 130 North.

English holds a degree in economics from Boston College and is the author of a memoir titled “Behind Ivy Walls.” The memoir recounts his challenging and unhappy childhood in Trenton, adding a personal and reflective dimension to his accomplishments.

Vice President Mike Todd expressed his excitement about working with Hal English, highlighting his expertise in finance, banking, municipal affairs, and economic development. Todd believes that English’s knowledge will be instrumental in continuing the Council’s efforts to improve and uplift the Robbinsville community. The Council extends their gratitude to all the residents who expressed their interest in joining the Council, recognizing their commitment to making a positive difference.
