Groups push for stricter gun control at Osceola County Picket

COUNTY COUNTY, Florida. – Several gun violence advocacy groups gathered outside of Osceola County Monday night. Members of the group spoke of their support for stricter gun laws.

Kissimmee City Commissioner Angela Eady organized a candlelight rally and called for further action, arguing that the laws would reduce incidents of gun violence in minority communities.

“It hurts, it hurts, and I will say it to my last breath, we need laws that protect and keep us safe,” Eady said. “Sometimes it’s a responsibility. We need that too if we can convince our elected officials along the same lines.”

The vigil came just four days after Kissimmee police said 4-year-old Michael Bragg Jr. had access to a loaded gun, causing him to die from a gunshot wound to the head.

Court records show that the child’s father, 32-year-old Michael Bragg Sr., told officers he was asleep when the bullet hit the toddler. Investigators also said Bragg Sr. was banned from owning a gun due to his previous felony conviction.

Dr. Amanda Wilkerson of the NAACP in Florida said universal background checks would be a key step in preventing gun deaths.

“It’s common sense when it comes to holding people accountable for guns,” Wilkerson said.

Prison records also show that Bragg Sr. has not yet been charged with the death of the 4-year-old.
