Great-grandmother hospitalized, pet died as a result of a brutal attack by a dog

It happened when Linda Lackey was walking her dog Baby in her neighborhood. She was released from the hospital this week, but she says she has an injury.

SAN ANTONIO. Following a fatal dog attack last week, KENS 5 learned of another dog attack that ended up in a San Antonio woman in the hospital.

This happened around 3:30 pm on Wednesday, February 22nd. Linda Lackey says she walked her dog, Baby, near Hillman Drive and Dauphin Drive.

“I walk my Baby every day,” she said. “We came here, as always, and it was supposed to be the last of the evening. This white dog appeared out of nowhere and started barking at (Baby) so I reached out to pick it up.

“As I reached out to pick her up, this big brown dog came out of nowhere, ripped her out of my arms and knocked her over.”

The footman says that she screamed for help, but no one came.

“When I turned around, I saw that the dog was holding it in its mouth,” Lackey said. “When he finally dropped it, I picked it up. She dripped blood all over the street and the whole house. She died in my arms.”

Lucky says that she was more traumatized by Baby’s death than by her own injuries.

“She was my friend,” Lucky said. “She slept with me, went shopping with me. If she is not welcome somewhere, then neither am I; that’s how I felt. It really destroyed my whole family. My husband, my children, my grandchildren, my great grandchildren… they all loved Baby.”

The footman spent four days in the hospital. She says she had a hip replacement and was being treated for a broken rib and a head injury.

According to the Animal Control Services (ACS), dog owners were cited. Neighbors told KENS 5 that this is not the first time their animals have shown aggression. We were told that the family had five dogs and one of them was reported to have followed the children down Hillman Drive.

On Tuesday, an ACS spokesman said the two dogs that attacked Baby were vaccinated against rabies. Because the incident is considered a dog-on-dog attack, it is distinct from the fatal attack that resulted in the death of three dogs. ACS officials say they cannot euthanize the dogs under Texas law, so they have been returned to their owner.

The footman can still request an investigation to try to define dogs as “dangerous animals”.

“Dog owners need to be held accountable,” Lackey said. “Small fences are not enough because these dogs can jump and they do. They killed this man and injured his family and friends (on the west side). And then these dogs killed my dog and sent me to the hospital.

“I just want people to understand that if you can’t take care of an animal, don’t buy it. Buy a soft toy.
