Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) — Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for County 21 ahead of a river weather event expected later this week.

On Wednesday, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties were added locally after Newsom declared a state of emergency in 13 counties last week.

San Benito County has been exempted from the state of emergency despite our meteorological team reporting that the Lavers Lane area is expecting a lot of rain.

“The state is working around the clock with local partners to deploy lifesaving equipment and first responders to communities across California,” Governor Newsom said. “With more dangerous storms on the horizon, we will continue to mobilize all available resources to protect Californians.”
