Governor Newsom Declares State of Emergency in San Benito County

CENTRAL COAST, CA (KION-TV) – UPDATE March 13, 2023 12:35 pm – Governor Newsom added six more counties to the California State of Emergency to support response and relief efforts for recent hurricanes.

San Benito Calaveras, Del Norte, Glenn, Kings and San Joaquin have joined the list of several statewide counties currently under state of emergency.

President Biden did not add San Benito County to the Emergency Declaration, so they cannot receive federal assistance.

Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for County 21 ahead of a weather event on the river later this week.

On Wednesday, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties were added locally after Newsom declared a state of emergency in 13 counties last week.

San Benito County has been exempted from the state of emergency despite our meteorological team reporting that the Lavers Lane area is expecting a lot of rain.

“The state is working around the clock with local partners to deploy lifesaving equipment and first responders to communities across California,” Governor Newsom said. “With more dangerous storms on the horizon, we will continue to mobilize all available resources to protect Californians.”
