GoFundMe takes massive fundraising action for Arizona rancher held on $1 million bail for alleged murder of illegal immigrant

Fundraising website GoFundMe has apparently chosen a side in an ongoing lawsuit involving a rancher accused of killing an illegal immigrant who crossed over to his land.

The site has removed several pages that were set up to support and raise money for Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly, who is currently in prison on $1 million bail.

According to the Daily Mail, GoFundMe stopped fundraising due to its policy of not defending those accused of “violent crimes.”

Kelly, 73, committed the alleged crime on January 30, when illegal immigrant Gabriel Kuen-Butimea was gunned down on Kelly’s land near Nogales, Arizona.

Kelly’s defense lawyers have indicated that he has already had problems with illegal aliens passing through his ranch and are pleading with the court to lower bail.

According to the Daily Mail, the elderly rancher tried to fight for his release to help his wife care for their livestock.

Kelly’s supporters turned to GiveSendGo to raise money for his bonds.

GiveSendGo co-founder Heather Wilson told Fox News, “This is why GiveSendGo exists. To give people the opportunity to speak out and get support in difficult times.”

The site has a reputation for being more lenient in contentious cases and removing pages less frequently than GoFundMe.

So far, his court-appointed attorney has yet to take steps to lower his bail or seek release from custody before the next trial date, according to the Daily Mail.

While Arizona law allows you to stand your ground and break laws for personal and property protection, attorney Kelly Brenna Larkin filed a two-week stay instead.

She cited the size of the case as the reason for the delay, stating that she needed more time to prepare for her upcoming trial, in which Kelly is charged with first-degree murder.

During the January 31 hearing, Kelly requested a reduction in his bail so he could help his wife with the ranch business.

“She’s there alone… no one will take care of her, or the livestock, or the ranch. And I’m not going anywhere. I can’t find a million dollars, Kelly pleaded.

“Could you reduce it to any degree?”

The judge refused, saying that his lawyer must make a formal request, which has not yet been made.
