German Shepherd rescued after 5 days of wandering in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Florida (WSVN) – Rescue of a dog stranded on an island.

It all started on Friday when someone spotted a 6 year old German Shepherd on the loose in Vero Beach.

He jumped into the water and swam to the neighboring island.

Officials said he spent almost five days wandering around.

Then Animal Control set up a trap with treats inside, and here’s what worked.

“He is very timid and shy, so we spend time spoiling him. Give him lots of treats and make him feel comfortable and safe,” the woman said.

He was taken to a humane society for a complete examination.

The staff is still looking for his owners.
