Gardening 101: Houseplants

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – During the winter months and in the dull brown landscape of North Texas, it’s often nice to see some greenery. Houseplants are great for this. They can light up the corner near the window, fill the space with something alive in shades of green in all sorts of forms. There is even some evidence that indoor plants help your brain.

Over the years, many of my friends have commented on how they routinely kill houseplants. I was talking to my friend Jennifer Hatalsky at Calloway. We decided to write a story about which houseplants you can try based on what SHE has (successfully) tried in her own home. Despite her deep knowledge of both the plants and the nursery industry, she doesn’t lay claim to what you would call a green thumb (I think it’s more a product of her incredible work ethic and focus on Calloway’s).

She recommends three different plants that vary in size, shape, and lighting requirements. There’s a good chance you have room in your home for at least one of them. Try it. If they work for you, donate them. Houseplants are good for your emotional health and the beauty of your living space.
