WalletHub’s “2023 Wickedest States in America” ​​is out, ranking all 50 states on how well behaved they are – or not.

In this study, WalletHub compared 50 states across 47 key indicators of immoral or illegal behavior, with datasets ranging from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking and proportion of the population with gambling addiction.

The top five most sinful states, starting at #1, are: Nevada, California, Louisiana, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

The top five least sinful states, starting at #46, are: Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, and Wyoming.

Seven broad categories of states were sorted: anger, jealousy, excess, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness.

The red states did poorly with anger, excess, and laziness, while the blue states topped the list with jealousy and greed. Lust and vanity were bipartisan vices. The top states for anger, jealousy, excess, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness were, respectively, Arkansas, Louisiana, Louisiana, Nevada, California, New York, and Nevada.

Johnson, assistant professor at the University of South Florida. “I think the holiest states are those that are doing their best to improve health and well-being within the context of their concerns and resources. It is important to note that within the states there are huge variations from city to city. Every state has a piece of heaven and a piece of hell.”

The study calculated each category using per capita statistics such as violent crimes committed, time spent on adult sites, obesity rates, and fraud incidents.
