Frisco to open new state of the art public library this Saturday

This week the city of Frisco presents its latest achievement – the transformation of a former rocket factory into a modern library!

Two years later, the construction of the $62 million project was completed, which is financed by a bond approved in 2019. The library is ready to open to the public on Saturday.

Ribbon cutting is scheduled for 9 am, open days – until 17:00.

Some interesting features include robotics for elementary students, 3D and virtual reality computers with a holographic display, a social events room, a quiet reading room, and a reading area for children.

Visitors will also see Rexie, a 21-foot-tall giant replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex, who will welcome children in the children’s area. The dinosaur has been named by the Frisco community.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Shelley Holly, director of the Frisco Public Library, briefed the city council on Jan. 3 on the progress and opening day.

“We’re planning on doing a photo booth and puppet shows, we have a few book characters coming,” Holly said. “We will have a demonstration of new technology and ribbon cutting. And, of course, once the library opens, you can meet Rexie, and she’s worth getting to know.”

It will be the only library in the city, but it is a huge 157,000-square-foot library that the city hopes will be able to better serve the growing population of Collin County. The space will also have natural light thanks to 40-foot glass windows, a second-floor mezzanine and terrace.

The previous city library was closed in preparation for the transition to the new one.

The new library is located at 8000 Dallas Parkway in Frisco. Click here to find out more.
