Freebee offers a free way to get around parts of Fort Pierce

FORT PIERCE, Florida. Starting Thursday, there will be a new free way to get around Fort Pierce, and it will be environmentally friendly.

Freebee is an on-demand 100% electric transportation service created in partnership between the City of Fort Pierce and the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency.

There will be a ribbon cutting on the Indian River, 600 N latitude, at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

Freebee service on request will be available in the city from Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 every day to 20:00 on Thursdays and Sundays and until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Freebee will pick up passengers at their doorstep and transport them safely to their chosen destination within the service area. The current service area covers downtown Fort Pierce and extends across the bridge to the northern tip of the island on the seafront. Destinations include the Sunrise Theater, St. Lucie County Aquarium, and Jetty Park.

Freebee operates a fleet of over 125 electric vehicles with over 230 full-time drivers in over 30 municipalities and campuses in Florida, including Delray Beach and Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Freebee rides are funded through local governments on municipal public transit networks, as well as private entities such as corporate business parks, hotels, resorts and university campuses, according to a press release from bp Ventures, which has invested $6 million in the company. .
