Fort Worth officer shot dead man after answering call about domestic disorder, police

A Fort Worth police officer shot and killed a man Saturday afternoon while answering a call about domestic unrest.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., Fort Worth police arrived at the 4900 block of Rutland Avenue after receiving a call from a resident saying her brother was at the scene and threatened her with a gun.

As soon as the police arrived at the scene, the suspect fled through the back of the house. The officers pursued the suspect, who refused to stop, and when trying to take the suspect into custody, the police used a stun gun, but this did not help.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said at a press conference that the suspect had made a death threat to the police officer, causing him to fear for his life.

Chief Noakes says the cop shot the suspect once, wounding him. The police immediately provided medical assistance to the suspect, after which he was taken to a local hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

Noakes also said a handgun was found at the scene in close proximity to the suspect. The police will investigate whether the gun was pointed at the police.

This incident is under investigation and more information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
