Fort Myers police officer on paid leave after arrest

CAPE CORAL, Florida. Fort Myers police officer Stevens Zuniga was arrested and charged with battery.

According to the incident report, Cape Coral Police were called to the 13:00 SE block of 11th Terrace on Sunday morning around 00:30 in connection with a gun riot.

When the officers arrived, they spoke to the two victims about what had happened, and the officers were directed to where Zuniga was last seen.

A Cape Coral police officer located Zuniga and detained him while they investigated.

According to the report, investigators believe that Zuniga deliberately hit the two victims and pushed them both during the incident.

This is after police said Zuniga had an argument with one of the victims after a party and it turned out he was drinking.

Zuniga was arrested for battery and taken to Lee County Jail.

All weapons were seized from Zunigi’s home and are kept at the police station.

The Fort Myers Police Department confirms Officer Stevens Zuniga has been placed on administrative leave with pay in accordance with department policy pending the outcome of both a criminal and internal investigation.
