Former George Santos roommate reveals how ‘delusional’ George Santos gave out wads of cash despite being broke

A former roommate of ashamed Long Island Rep. George Santos said Tuesday the Republican-now congressman suffered from “megalomania”, was often broke and used a different name during their brief cohabitation.

Gregory Maury-Parker told CNN This Morning that he met Santos in 2013 and accepted his offer to live together for several months while Maury-Parker looked for a new apartment in Astoria, Queens.

“It’s definitely been an interesting, interesting few months,” Maury-Parker told co-host Don Lemon.

“I guess the most important thing I took away from this is just megalomania,” said the former roommate. “Like, he, he just went to bars with stacks of $100 bills, and three days later he had no money.

“Or, you know, he kept saying, ‘Oh, well, you know, I’m going to sell my phone, I’m going to sell my phone. Do you know anyone who wants to buy it? And, you know, I’m like, “Well, why are you selling it?” And he’s like, “Well, don’t worry about it.”

“His mother was a housewife in Manhattan,” Maury-Parker added, “and it just didn’t seem possible for him, if you like, to come from all this wealth of generations.”

During this period, Maury-Parker recalled, Santos went by the name Anthony Devolder, a combination of his middle name and his mother’s maiden name.

“I never knew him as George Santos,” the former roommate said.

Santos admitted to lying about his career, education, and religion, and also claimed he was a real estate mogul who owned 13 properties.

Indeed, the freshman legislator had such a hard time with money that he admitted to charging a homeowner in Queens for about $12,000.

“I kind of assumed he made up, you know, about Baruch and NYU. But then I thought, “Well, maybe I was wrong”, you know, after the election, because I’m sure that DCCC [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee] and NRC [Republican National Committee] you know, would have investigated him, and at least his opponent would have done something against[osition] research,” Maury-Parker said.

“I don’t understand. Like, he went one by one to everyone in his district and literally splurge? Like how? It’s just amazing.”

Tracking down all the lies of New York Rep. George Santos

Santos faces several investigations into his campaign’s lies and dubious sources of funding for his 2022 campaign. He resisted calls from Nassau County Democrats and Republicans to step down from his seat.

Maury-Parker also claimed that Santos stole his designer scarf and wore it during a speech in Washington the day before the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, in which Santos claimed his own defeat in the 2020 House of Representatives election was rigged.

“I miss my plaid Burberry scarf, but at the same time I feel that they are not focused enough on current issues,” Morey-Parker said. “Do you know where all this money to finance the campaign came from?

“You know, it’s all simple, it’s very confusing to me. I mean how he was even elected.”

Santos denied one aspect of the interview, telling Lemon that he didn’t steal the scarf “or anything else in my life.”
