Former Frisco mayor dies at 102

Bob Warren served three times as mayor of the city from 1989 to 1996.

FRISCO, Texas. The former mayor of Frisco, who lived to the age of 102, has passed away, the city said Tuesday afternoon.

Former mayor Bob Warren served three times as mayor of the city from 1989 to 1996. Prior to that, he also served on the city council for six years.

“Those who knew Mayor Warren saw his tender loving soul,” Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said in a statement. “He was always so encouraging to me and the other members of the Council. He had a quick wit and always found a way to make others laugh.”

City officials have said that Warren’s service marked the early years of the city’s growth and described him as a consummate storyteller who left behind a legacy that tells the history of Frisco.

The WFAA spoke to Warren two years ago about his 100th birthday, when he said he never thought his hometown would become one of the fastest growing cities in the country or live to be 100 years old.

“The Lord has been good to me,” Warren said at the time.

Warren graduated from Frisco High School in 1938 along with 18 other classmates. Born and raised in the city, he was known to many as “Mr. Frisco”.

A boulevard, a clock on the main street, a sports complex, and even a burger were named after Warren.

A World War II veteran, Warren had no shortage of stories of being an aircraft carrier pilot and seeing planes shot down ahead and behind him. He said he considers himself lucky and grateful to be alive.

Warren attributed his longevity to being constantly moving and eating a bowl of oatmeal every morning.

“You will wither in the bud if you don’t say “active,” he said then.
