Former Dolphins defenseman Vonte Davis found sleeping on his shoulder after crash, FHP reports

HOLLYWOOD, Florida. Former Dolphins quarterback Vonte Davis was arrested on a drunk driving charge Saturday in Hollywood after his car rear-ended a truck parked on the side of the road with a flat tire, the Florida Highway Patrol said Sunday.

At 7:47 a.m. Saturday, a Southwest Ranches resident was driving south on the Florida Freeway through Hollywood when his black Tesla crashed into the back of a bronze Toyota Tundra parked on the side of the road with a flat tire, FHP reported.

The driver of the Tundra, a 59-year-old resident of North Miami, was standing next to his truck.

He was hit by his own truck after Davis crashed into it and was taken to Broward General Hospital with several injuries.

Davis was also taken to Broward Hospital as a precaution due to his injuries, but was then taken to the Broward County Jail. His bond was listed at $500.

Vonte Davis was arrested on charges of driving under the influence on February 4, 2023 on the Florida Highway in Hollywood, Florida.

According to the officer’s report, Davis was arrested on charges of driving under the influence for the first offense after refusing to take standard field sobriety exercises and refusing to take a breathalyzer test or provide a blood and urine sample.

“Going up to Mr. Davis, I noticed that he was sleeping on his right shoulder,” the arresting officer wrote in his report. “While talking to Mr. Davis about the crash, I noticed that his eyes were bloodshot. He had to lean against the concrete wall of the barrier to keep himself upright. With a slurred speech, Mr. Davis declared that he was not injured.

The officer asked Davis if he had been drinking.

“He replied: “Yes, I drank two drinks, two cocktails,” the soldier’s report says. “I asked Mr. Davis where he came from. He replied that it was the name of the club. I couldn’t understand the title. I asked Mr. Davis why he was sleeping on his shoulder against the wall. tired.”

Davis, 34, played for the Dolphins from 2009 to 2011 after being selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He then played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017, earning two Pro Bowl berths, and the Buffalo Bills the following year.

In 2018, Davis left at halftime when the host Bills faced the Los Angeles Chargers in the season opener. Davis subsequently retired.
