Former CNN anchor Brian Stelter reappears in Davos to host disinformation panel

CNN stationery anchor Brian Stelter reappeared in Davos on Tuesday to host a panel on “disinformation” at the luxurious World Economic Forum summit.

The Stelter-led event was titled “The Clear and Real Danger of Disinformation” and was attended by several prominent figures, including New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger, European Commission Vice President Vera Yurova, Internews CEO Jeanne Burgaud, and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-mass).

Stelter mentioned his old job at the beginning of the panel, introducing himself to the crowd as “a former CNN employee”.

The hour-long discussion in the Swiss resort town focused on how “the public, regulators and social media can better work together to combat misinformation as information pollution spreads at an unprecedented rate and scale,” according to the World Economic Forum’s website.

At one point during the discussion, Yurova, a critic of Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, predicted that the U.S. would “soon” pass laws to regulate “illegal hate speech.”

The Davos concert marked a brief return to the spotlight for Stelter, a longtime TV personality and media industry reporter who has kept a low profile since CNN fired him and canceled his Reliable Sources show last August.

CNN president Chris Licht ousted Stelter from senior management who sought to reinvent the network with a focus on unbiased, centrist coverage. During his appearance in Reliable Sources, Stelter developed a reputation for being liberal and attacking members of the Republican Party.

At the time, a source told The Post that Stelter, a nine-year CNN veteran, was “caught off guard” by his firing, despite persistent rumors that he could be ousted by the network’s new management.

Last September, Stelter announced that he received a scholarship to the Kennedy School at Harvard University, joining the Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics and Public Policy.

The Stelter Fellowship at Harvard includes hosting discussions “on the threats to democracy and the range of potential media responses,” the university said.
