Ford stops production and delivers its electric truck due to potential battery problem, but won’t disclose the problem

Want to buy the 2023 Truck of the Year by Motor Trend?

You will have to wait. This is because its production has been suspended.

Ford says it has stopped production and supply of its electric F-150 Lightning due to battery problems.

Ford won’t say exactly what’s wrong, but company spokeswoman Emma Bergg told Motor Authority that the problem with the battery was discovered during pre-delivery inspections.

As a result, the company issued orders to stop construction and shipment. He did not issue a cease-sales order, which means that finished F-150 Lightings already at dealers are not affected.

And the company says it is not aware of any issues with the F-150 Lighting trucks already on the way.

There is no timeline to predict when production and factory deliveries will resume. “It depends on how long it takes to do the root cause analysis,” Bergg said.

The battery problem is a setback in Ford’s efforts to increase production and sales of electric vehicles. It came just as Ford announced it would build a $3.5 billion battery plant in Marshall, Michigan, according to The Detroit Free Press.

While Ford electric vehicle sales were 12,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2022, the company plans to sell 50,000 units monthly and 600,000 internationally by the end of this year, CEO Jim Farley said in a message to investors.

Are electric vehicles a complete failure?

A battery issue won’t prompt Ford to recall the Lightning, according to Motor Trend. After the company’s silence, internet forums report that Ford dealers are replacing batteries for free due to parts not working properly.

Farley called the Lightning the best-selling electric vehicle pickup, but there are problems.

Cold weather shortened the Lightning’s range, and to conserve battery life, the company advised drivers not to use the heater in cold temperatures.

There has been at least one major charging incident, and on top of the car’s high price, a new battery could cost $35,000.

While Motor Trend predicts that a new battery plant in Michigan could reduce the overall cost of vehicles, the price of the Lightning has tripled in the past year. The cheapest of the trucks originally cost $41,769, but it went up $16,000 or 38.5 percent.

However, according to Free Press, there is a waiting list for the F-150 Lightning.

So Ford engineers are trying to fix the battery problem, because every day without production is a day lost forever.

However, there is something about the fact that old Henry Ford was a huge success with the original Model T, because, in addition to the low price, this thing was simple, strong and reliable.

And simple, strong and reliable are words that can be applied to the venerable Ford F-150 with an internal combustion engine.

When will these words be applied to the electric F-150?
