Florida Department of Health warns pharmacists against selling abortion pills

The Florida Department of Health has issued a statement to healthcare professionals warning against the sale of mifepristone, commonly known as the abortion pill.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the use of the drug to terminate a pregnancy before 10 weeks of gestation.

An email from the Florida Department of Health reminded service providers to “comply with Florida laws governing abortion,” citing chapters 390 and 797 of the 2022 Florida Bylaws.

Chapter 390 states that “it is forbidden to terminate a pregnancy at any time except [licensed] doctor”.

Chapter 797 states that “It is unlawful for any person to perform or assist in performing an abortion on a human … except in a validly licensed hospital, abortion clinic, or doctor’s office.”

The Florida Department of Health also said that local law enforcement will be looking into any evidence of criminal activity found through interviews with service providers.
