Firefighters battle two alarming Trenton fires

TRENTON, New Jersey (Mercer). This evening (Friday, February 24), city firefighters put out another fire at a work building, this time at a commercial building at 809 East State Street, near the corner of Chambers Street. Shortly before 6:40 p.m., the city’s 911 communications center received a call that the roof was on fire and dispatched vehicles 7, 10, and 6, ladder 4, and rescue 1. Along the way, firefighters noticed a plume of smoke rising over the city. night sky. An “All Hands” signal for a working fire was immediately transmitted and Engine 3, Ladder 2 and Special Service 1 were sent as the balance of the first alert. Shortly thereafter, Battalion Commander Dave Smolka ordered a second alert and Engine 1 was sent to assist in carrying out operations. Firefighters used several 2.5-inch hoses and the main airflow from Ladder 2 to bring the smoky blaze under control in about an hour. One person affected by smoke inhalation was reportedly taken by Trenton EMS ambulance to a local hospital. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the authorities.
