FEMA is committed to helping survivors of Hurricane Yan with a new shelter program.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is seeking to help disaster victims with a new apartment building rental and renovation program. FEMA is asking apartment owners to provide temporary housing for Hurricane Yan survivors.

The MLR program serves as temporary housing assistance that allows FEMA to repair or improve existing multi-family rental or residential properties.

To be eligible for the MLR program, the property must have a lease term of at least 18 months with an option to renew, the property must be able to accommodate multiple people, the site must already be in use as an apartment building, the property must be maintainable in accordance with all state and federal regulations, and it cannot be located in a floodplain.

The MLR program is not designed to repair or improve individual units to relocate existing tenants.

The apartment buildings under consideration must be located around coastal communities impacted by Hurricane Yan, including Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Hardy, Lee, and Sarasota counties.
