Feds, NYPD take down Manhattan drug ring: officials

Police and federal agents arrived in Washington Heights early Wednesday morning targeting what they said was a major drug and arms dealing organization operating in the Manhattan area, law enforcement officials say.

Homeland Security agents and NYPD detectives arrested about a dozen suspects and searched several locations believed to be linked to the drug ring, officials said.

Authorities added that some searches and arrests also took place in New Jersey.

Much of the activity on Wednesday morning seemed to be focused on businesses on 174th Street. Law enforcement officers were also seen outside the building on Audubon Avenue.

Some of the suspects are believed to be linked to the Trinitarios gang, notorious for its brutality, law enforcement officials said.

Additional information is expected to be released by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York later Wednesday.
