FRISCO, Texas – Alex Aldaz, FC Dallas Academy Coach, has been selected as Assistant Coach for the US Under-17 National Team ahead of the Koncacafe Under-17 Championship. Aldaz will be in his fifth USA MYNT U-17 camp, representing a solid bridge between FC Dallas, its players and staff joining the national team setup.

Aldaz joined FC Dallas in 2018 and is the head coach of the FCD U-15 Academy. He has worked with the U-17 men’s youth team, which is preparing for the Concacaf U-17 Championship. The four semi-finalists of the Concacafé Under-17 Championship will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru. Heading into the Concacaf game, Aldaz will play an important role in training and developing the team’s young players.

“There is a sense of pride, you represent your country… When you stand and listen to the anthem, nothing like that.” Aldaz said.

Aldaz supports other US MYNT coaches and players by developing strong relationships off the field that add value on the field. “It’s not just a workout and then everyone goes back to their hotel rooms,” he explained. “It’s very structured and we have moments to interact with players and make the most of learning opportunities.”

While in the national team, Aldaz was able to learn new tactics and techniques that he can use in training with the FC Dallas Academy team:

“The opportunity to get into the national team and participate in training, certification and competitive camps gave me a lot of knowledge and made me a more versatile coach. The biggest takeaway is the level of detail and organization.”

While Aldaz is looking forward to the start of the competition, he also knows what is expected of the team and staff. “Performance goals are clear. This is an exit to the semi-finals, then you are at the World Championships. However, being the US and part of Konkakaf means that this is not enough. You want to be Concacaf champions.”

The USA will play in Group F of the Concacafe Under 17 Championship along with Canada, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados. The team will open the group stage game on Saturday 11 February 2023 against Barbados.
