The drivers followed each other to the gas station, driving aggressively, after an earlier altercation at a different location. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim pulled up to the gas pump where she was confronted by the suspect.

The police sergeant at the scene stated that during the altercation, the suspect shot the victim one time in the chest. The victim was initially taken to University Hospital in critical condition but later died due to her injuries. The suspect, identified as Kasey Garcia, 23, was taken into custody for further questioning and was later arrested for murder.
