A rollover crash in Kent, Washington early Saturday morning resulted in the tragic death of a man who was struck by a stolen trailer and excavator. The driver of the stolen truck, towing the trailer and excavator, remains at large, according to Kent police.
Reports indicate that officers from the Kent Police Department were initially dispatched to the 12000 block of SW 236th Street in response to a driver fleeing from a truck and trailer that had crashed into a ditch. While en route to the scene, an officer noticed another truck towing an excavator on a trailer driving erratically and colliding with a stop sign.
Subsequently, the driver lost control of the trailer and excavator, causing them to roll over and detach from the truck. The driver initially exited the vehicle but soon reentered the truck and fled the scene, leaving behind a path of destruction.
Upon arrival at the crash scene, officers discovered a man who had sustained severe injuries in the rollover crash. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old Kent resident succumbed to his injuries, which included severe head and chest trauma. Police later revealed that the man was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm.
The abandoned truck used to tow the trailer and excavator was eventually located by Kent police. It was determined that the truck had been stolen from within Kent earlier that Saturday morning. However, the driver of the stolen truck remains unidentified and at large.
