Fatal Head-On Collision Leaves Driver Dead, Authorities Confirm

A man has died after colliding with an oncoming vehicle in Deltona, Florida on Monday morning. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Shawn Wainwright of Osteen, was driving a black Mitsubishi SUV when he veered into the center lane and abruptly turned back into the northbound lane, colliding with a Jeep SUV.

Authorities from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene at around 11:54 a.m. near the intersection of 1849 E. Normandy Blvd and Clay Court. Witnesses reported that neither of the involved vehicles appeared to be speeding.

Wainwright was taken to a nearby emergency room, but he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Jeep was rescued by Deltona fire crews and taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
