Family visiting Fort Lauderdale catches a great white off the coast

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. (WSVN) — A family vacationing in South Florida expected to catch a big fish, but were genuinely surprised by what they caught off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

“What do you think?” asked a man in a mobile phone video of a great white shark drifting on a line near their boat.

“The best day!” said the boy.

The best day of my life is how this little guy describes his incredible fishing adventure.

He and his family were on the water in Fort Lauderdale when they caught the great white.

“Here he is, a hundred to 50,” said the man in the video.

A family from North Dakota said they were in South Florida for an exciting fishing trip, so they booked shark fishing with Good Hit Sportfishing, but they had no idea how action-packed the trip would be.

During the struggle for another fish, one of the men said that he felt a strong pull on the fishing line.

“Suddenly, when it hit one rod, it just hit it and took off,” Sean Jacobson said, “so we knew it was something big.”

The shark was so big that it took all three on board to catch the big one.

“We alternated turns left and right, like, what, 20-30 handles, and then the next guy kicked in,” Jacobson said.

After about 40 minutes of jerking and jerking, the men were finally able to catch the big guy, a catch that is extremely rare in South Florida.

In fact, it wasn’t until they saw the boat captain’s reaction that they realized how special this capture was.

“I have been doing this for 20 years on a full-time basis as a captain,” said Captain Adam Rekert, “and this is the second landing I have made. The last one was about 15 years ago.”

With that in mind, everyone on board decided to keep this memory forever by taking a couple of photos and videos, and before letting him go, the kids decided to give the big fish a cool name to remember him.

“We named him Cofax Crusher,” said one of the boys.

After they tagged the shark, they released it, which Good Hit Sportfishing says is standard protocol.
