Family pray for justice after a 16-year-old was shot dead outside an apartment in Baytown

BAYTOWN — A Baytown family is heartbroken and preparing to bury their 16-year-old son after he was shot dead outside their apartment building Tuesday night.

“Currently no one is feeling well. It really hurts. And the way he died…,” said Brian Danville.

Shane Hamilton was a Goose Creek CISD student-athlete who celebrated his birthday last Friday before his life ended on Tuesday.

The family is still shocked and scared because not a single suspect has been arrested. Danville shares his stepson’s story and hopes someone can help them.

“He will always be missed,” Danville said. “We all miss him.”

Memories are all that’s left of 16-year-old Shane Hamilton. He was a freshman at Robert E. Lee High School and played football and basketball.

“An up-and-coming superstar and I always believed that one day he would be a superstar,” Danville said.

Danville says Shane went to a basketball game on Tuesday night and had a meal with friends.

When he returned to his family’s home on Shady Hill Drive, someone fired several shots at Shane.

His stepfather heard the shots and said that Shane passed out right at the door of their apartment.

“I ran outside. Me and two other neighbors tried to give him artificial respiration,” he said.

The officers took action to save Shane’s life, but it was too late.

“It was very difficult because it was the last thing I could expect from Shane,” he said.

The family erected a makeshift memorial outside their home with Shane’s favorite items.

“We have a basketball. He liked to play football, so we put in a soccer ball. His favorite colors are there and his favorite number is 23,” Danville said.

Danville hopes the police find the culprit and says the violence must stop.

“Let’s put away our weapons. Let’s solve it differently so that no one loses a loved one,” he said.

family created GoFundMe Page help with Shane’s funeral expenses.
