Family pleads with third suspect to testify after NYC car theft, man slipped into coma

Devastated relatives of a Queens man who was seriously injured after being thrown from the roof of a stolen car this week are begging a third suspect to come forward.

Tori Thompson, 28, was left in a coma after an incident Monday night when he tried to stop a trio of thieves from leaving in their Lexus in South Richmond Hill.

“We want everyone responsible for this crime to stand up and surrender,” his cousin Himera Meerschman told The Post.

“It was a senseless crime,” she added. “You can’t steal someone’s property.”

As of Thursday, two 15-year-old boys were charged with the crime, while a third suspect remained at large.

Video footage of the incident shows Thompson clinging to the roof of a car in a futile attempt to stop the riders.

The thieves eventually crashed into a fire hydrant, sending Thompson flying several feet into the air and falling to the pavement near Lefferts Boulevard and Liberty Avenue.

“He’s in critical condition … still in a coma,” Meerschman said Wednesday. The family is raising funds for his treatment through GoFundMe.

“My cousin worked hard on his car – it’s unfair to think that someone can just take someone else’s property,” she said.

Mirshman said her cousin grew up in Queens Village and “loved life”.

“He had a job as a consultant, singing in cafes and jazz bars on the weekends as he is a singer-songwriter and also working as a waiter. [delivery] driver,” she said.

Earlier this year, the aspiring creative was even featured in a Doordash ad he shared on Instagram.

“My cousin is a great guy… just a good kid,” Mirshman said.

“Usually he would be the one to hold the family together during difficult times,” she continued. “I pray that he is all right. I hope to hear him sing again, I want to see him smile again.”

Residents near the street where the Lexus crashed described horror upon seeing Thompson’s injuries.

“The guy flew 60 feet. He landed there, bounced three times and slid face down like a baseball,” recalled one of the homeowners. “I went out and saw that he was lying there, and there was blood on the ground.”

Another resident, Balram Muneshwar, said he installed security cameras because car accidents were on the rise.

“If there hadn’t been a hydrant there, the car would probably have ended up in my living room,” he said of the accident.

The Thompson family is “offended and would like answers” regarding the third suspect, Meerschman said.

“Tauri was a shining star and often sang at family events, including weddings and funerals,” she said.

“Who will sing for us now?”
