Families in Central Florida rely on food as they feel the effects of inflation.

ORLANDO, Florida. “Second Harvest Food Bank in Central Florida, along with the charity Serenity’s Grace, are delivering results for families struggling to get food on the table.

On Thursday, dozens of people lined up for hours hoping to get free groceries.

“Many things are very expensive. Eggs, meat is too tough,” Maria Santana said.

Santana said she doesn’t have a job and uses food stamps to buy food for her family.

“It’s very hard, it’s very hard. What we get is not enough. It’s really hard for everyone. Wherever we go, everything is expensive,” she said.

Food bank Second Harvest said the number of people seeking food aid has skyrocketed.

Last month, more than 6,000 search queries were completed on his Food Finder tool.

“The effects of higher inflation will affect these families for quite some time. For the past couple of years, they have not stood up. One catastrophe followed another, and then inflation and rising costs were added to everything, ”said Maureen Mikel from Second Harvest Food Bank.

Food prices are projected to rise 7.1% this year, according to the USDA.

Egg prices are forecast to rise by 27.3%. Other commodities such as meat are expected to rise by 12.8%, dairy products by 8.0%, fats and oils by 16.5% and fruits and vegetables by 9.6%.

Pedro Juan Grana, 81, lined up at 5am to get free groceries for himself and his wife.

“Why do you think I’m here? Because it’s a huge help for people who don’t have enough money. Here you will get what you need,” Grana said.
