FAA investigates United Wing Clip incident at Newark airport weeks after JFK scare

On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a United Airlines jet bound for Orlando hit a Boeing 787 with its left wing at Newark Liberty International Airport.

According to the agency, there were no casualties in the accident, which occurred around 8:45 a.m. According to the FAA, a preliminary check showed that the Boeing 787 was being pulled to another place when it was cut.

There were no reports of injuries and the FAA says the investigation is ongoing.

Neither United Airlines nor the Port Authority can be immediately available for comment.

It comes about two weeks after two unusual incidents at another major local air hub, John F. Kennedy Airport, involving Delta, American and JetBlue aircraft. In the first case, on Friday, January 13, Delta pilots tried to brake when they were told an American Airlines plane had crossed their path. They narrowly escaped disaster with about 1,000 feet to spare.

The second incident, in which a JetBlue plane crashed into an unoccupied, parked plane as it was pushing off the gate, was not as close to a bell but caught the attention of regulators, especially after an incident that came close to a miss a few days earlier.

No casualties have been reported in any of the cases. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating both incidents with Kennedy.
