FAA Computer Glitch Causes Flight Delays and Cancellations at Austin Airport

Hundreds of flights departing from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) were delayed Wednesday morning due to a computer glitch.

“We were supposed to leave at 4:30, now they say 5:01 or 5 o’clock, so I hope we don’t spend another two hours sitting in the airport,” says Motis Carlos, traveling in Alabama.

“It wasn’t that bad, it was delayed by about 20 minutes and it looks like everything should be fine from now on,” Brian says while traveling to Dallas.

“Right now my flight is delayed by about two and a half hours,” Elizabeth says as she makes her way to Nashville.

Hundreds of delays and 44 cancellations have left many travelers wondering when their flight will take off.

“We arrived early and we are sitting here early, we have already checked our luggage, and yet we don’t know if our flight will arrive or not,” says Carlos.

Some travelers even had to change their plans to make sure they could at least get on a plane on Wednesday night.

“I was able to reschedule my flight to an earlier time, so I will return home at about the same time that I originally planned,” says Elizabeth.

Motis Carlos, who was visiting his brother in Austin, says his flight was delayed due to a power outage.

Motis’ original plan was to fly out of Austin on Saturday, but after an emergency visit to the hospital, he had to postpone his flight until Wednesday afternoon.

Following the airline’s recommendations, Motis and his wife arrived at the airport an hour early to give them time to go through security.

Luckily, his flight with Delta Air Lines was delayed by 20 minutes, but Motis is worried he won’t miss his connecting flight.

“We still have to go to Birmingham, so we have to stay in Atlanta for about three hours, and I hope we don’t stay there,” says Carlos.

It’s unclear if Thursday’s flights will be changed, the AUS is advising travelers departing from Austin Airport to double check with their airlines to see if their flight has been delayed or cancelled.
