Elon Musk tells supervisor Jim Desmond that he will help with San Diego’s new transportation plan.

SAN DIEGO (CUSI) — Jim Desmond, San Diego County District 5 Superintendent, has led the opposition to SANDAG’s hugely unpopular mileage tax proposal.

The mileage tax is part of the $163 billion regional transportation plan that was passed, but the SANDAG board members who voted to pass it initially promised that the mileage tax would be eliminated. But the mileage tax is the main funding mechanism for the plan, and SANDAG chief executive Hassan Ihrata is pushing board members to implement it.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, SANDAG Chairman Nora Vargas, and Chief Executive Nathan Fletcher support the plan and refuse to publicly oppose it.

News KUSI I recently did a poll on Twitter.by asking our subscribers if they are for or against the proposed mileage tax, and the results were as expected. 97% of voters were against the tax.

However, our Democratic leaders seem to be doing their best to make the unpopular mileage tax a reality.

Republican Supervisor Jim Desmond, along with others, urged the people of San Diegan to tell their representatives that they oppose the plan and his efforts appear to be paying off.

Desmond took it one step further by asking Elon Musk to help come up with a “realistic transportation plan instead of the plan we have now where they want to tax us on our cars?”

Musk replied “Of course” and noted the official name of his Boring Company.

The next day, Desmond met with the leaders of the Boring Company and joined Jason Austell of KUSI to tell us what happened at that meeting.
