Electric bike fire prompts evacuation of TooJay deli in Wellington

WELLINGTON, Florida. A Too Jay’s Deli store was briefly evacuated after an electric bike caught fire at a bike rack next to a building in Wellington, the Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue Department said.

Firefighters were called to the 2600 block of State Road 7 around 11:30 am to report a fire threatening the building.

According to the Palm Beach County Fire Department, the building did not burn, but to protect the building, firefighters launched an “aggressive and rapid fire attack” on a motorcycle.

The restaurant was evacuated so firefighters could make sure the fire didn’t spread to the building. It did not spread and no one was hurt.

The fire was extinguished in less than two minutes, protecting an outdoor recreation area.

Billy Brightman, a journalism student at the University of Miami, presented a video of the fire to WPTV.
