Edgewater officer injured in collision while assisting sheriff’s deputy.

An Edgewater police officer was hospitalized following a collision on Friday night that occurred as they were heading to assist a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Details of the crash were released by the Edgewater Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 (Ridgewood Avenue) and Roberts Road, according to troopers. The officer had activated their lights and siren at the time of the crash, which involved their marked patrol vehicle and a 2015 Ford Mustang.

The officer, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was transported to a nearby medical center for treatment. On the other hand, the Mustang’s driver, a 48-year-old man from Titusville, did not require transportation but still sustained injuries to some degree.

Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident. No further details have been shared by the authorities.
