East Windsor Township Commemorates 22nd Anniversary of 9/11

East Windsor Township, known for its commitment to honoring and remembering significant events, held a solemn ceremony on Monday, September 11, to mark the 22nd anniversary of the tragic September 11 attacks. The ceremony took place at the East Windsor Municipal Building grounds, specifically at the 9/11 Memorial, which was dedicated 30 days after the devastating events of 2001.

During this annual event, the township pays tribute to the lives lost on that fateful day, including several residents who were directly affected by the attacks. Among those remembered are Colleen Barkow, Lorraine Bay, Debbie Bellows, Anil Bharvaney, Neil Lai, Ruth Lapin, Joseph Pycior, and all others who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The ceremony was attended by various participants who joined together to honor the memory of the victims. These included the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and No. 2, Boy Scout Troops 6284 and 63, Cub Scout Pack 53, Girl Scout Troops, Apollo Lodge #41, Natalie Maldonado from East Windsor Regional School District’s Hightstown High School, the Hightstown High School Small Ensemble, Rabbi Jay Kornsgold from Beth El Synagogue, Reverend Stephen E. Bryant Sr. from St. James AME Church, Reverend James R. Egan from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Police Chief Jason Hart and the East Windsor Police Department, and Mayor Janice S. Mironov along with other elected officials.

The centerpiece of the ceremony was the wreath laying at the 9/11 Memorial. This solemn act of remembrance was conducted during the Township community remembrance program. Chief Brian Foley from the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, Mayor Janice S. Mironov, Chief Gerald Laughlin from the East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and United States Air Force Veteran and East Windsor Police Lieutenant Ryan Mattek were present during the wreath laying ceremony.

Additionally, local Boy Scout Troops 6284, 5700, and 59, Girl Scout Troops 70913 and 72965, and Cub Scout Pack 53 presented the colors, adding a touch of patriotic solemnity to the event.

The ceremony, held at the East Windsor Township 9/11 memorial, brought together various members of the community, including elected officials, clergy, police officers, fire company and rescue squad volunteers, school district representatives, veterans, and scouts. The purpose of this gathering was to remember and honor the anniversary of September 11. The 9/11 Memorial, situated on the grounds of the East Windsor Township Municipal Building, served as a poignant backdrop for the commemoration.

As East Windsor Township continues its tradition of paying tribute to significant events, the 22nd anniversary of 9/11 stands as a solemn reminder of the resilience and unity of the community in the face of tragedy.
