East Windsor Mayor Swears In New Police Sergeant and Lieutenant

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–In a recent ceremony, Mayor Janice S. Mironov had the honor of administering the oath of office to two promoted police officers, Police Sergeant Kenny Azambuja and Police Lieutenant Philip Melhorn. These officers have filled existing positions in the police department, marking a significant milestone in their careers.

During the ceremony, Mayor Mironov expressed her excitement for East Windsor Township and the Police Department, emphasizing the achievements and dedication of Sergeant Azambuja and Lieutenant Melhorn. She commended them for their hard work in earning these well-deserved promotions and extended her congratulations to both officers for their continued commitment to serving the Township.

Lieutenant Philip Melhorn, who was hired in July 2006, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Throughout his career, he has served in various capacities, including Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, Officer-In-Charge, and Detective in Investigative Services. In addition, he has also held roles such as Public Information Officer, Municipal Counter Terrorism Coordinator, Child Abduction Response Team Liaison, and member of the Internal Affairs Unit. Lieutenant Melhorn holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The College of New Jersey and a Master of Science degree from the University of Nevada. He will now assume the role of interim Commander of Administrative Services.

Sergeant Kenny Azambuja, who joined the force in August 2006, has also demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill throughout his career. He has served as a Field Training Officer, Officer in Charge, and Detective in Investigative Services. Moreover, he has utilized his expertise as a Firearms Instructor and Precision Rifle Operator. Sergeant Azambuja holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Administrative Science degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. In his new role, he will be assigned as a Platoon Supervisor in Uniform Services.

The ceremony, which was attended by Chief of Police Jason Hart, elected officials, and fellow police officers, was a testament to the achievements and professionalism of Sergeant Azambuja and Lieutenant Melhorn. Their promotions signify their commitment to the East Windsor Township community and their ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.
